Karla
Gómez is a University of Florida graduate
with a BFA in Dance. Her passion in the arts has
drawn her into different branches not only in dance
but also in theater. She was born in the Dominican
Republic and quickly showed her love for the arts.
She migrated at the young age of ten and quickly
engaged in ballet classes at Ballet Concerto with
Marta del Pino. She became part of several dance
teams and companies such as The Caravan Dancers,
Higher Ground, UM’s Hurricanettes, UF’s
Floridance and DANZA, among others. In 1998, she
performed in The Super Bowl with the Hurricanettes.
She founded, choreographed for, and directed UF’s
first diverse dance company, DANZA. She also worked
as assistant manager of UF’s proffesional
modern dance company The Florida MOD Project. As
her Senior Project, Karla created a very unique
modern dance piece, Secret Contempt, which
was chosen by the faculty to be performed in the
American College Dance Festival in Texas as well
as the Florida Dance Festival in Miami 2002.
UF has blessed her with many prestigious awards
and honors such as the Multicultural Scholarship
Award, and The Judy Manson Award. She has made her
way to teach in different settings and schools such
as Miami Sunset Senior High, South Miami Senior
High, The Vision Academy, Dancing in XS and Cristi’s
Dance studio. Today she opens her own academy to
share her extensive and diverse knowledge with today’s
youth.
